Personalized Mug Rugs

I wanted to share with you a couple of Mug Rugs I made for my lunch buddies, Ruth and Rhea.  We get together every month for lunch and chatter at the local Ice Creamery.  (Is it any wonder I can't lose weight?)  Rhea always brings special gifts for us, so I thought I would surprise her this time with something I made.

These were so fun any easy.  With a fine-tipped permanent black marker I drew a simple cartoon caricature of Ruth and Rhea, then colored them in with crayons.  To set the colors, I put wax paper over the colored drawing and ironed it on medium-high heat.  Next I added a square scrap of fabric to the left side of the drawing.  After a tiny bit of quilting, I added batting, a backing and bound it. Voila!

I think these little mug rugs are so much fun to make.  They're a quick project that's sure to catch a smile.

Special projects

Lately I've been doing more crafting than sewing.  I have had several requests from friends to help them with special projects which have kept me busy.

First there was the cowboy themed poster for a group at church, the Young at Heart.

Next were birthday plaques my friend Jan saw on Pinterest.  Such a cute idea!  There are tea cup hooks under the months which hold little linked disks that display a loved one's birthday.

Last were the rose pictures.  My friend Doris wanted a painting of roses for her birthday and asked me if I could paint one for her.  Yikes! Painting flowers is not my specialty.  Thank goodness for YouTube videos.  I made two because I wasn't pleased with the leaves.  Doris seemed happy with them and that's all that matters. Happy Birthday, Friend!

My gifts arrived

I received an email from Toni at Red Boot Quilt Company with my gift pattern, the Carrot Club Bunny Bags.  These will be perfect for Easter.  I can't wait to make them.  She sent a second pattern, too, which I thought was a mistake, but when I asked her, she said she thought I would like it and included it.  What a gal!  If you have never been to her website, check it out.  She is an amazing artist and quilter.

A couple of days later I received the second part of my gift, fabric from Pink Chalk Fabrics.  I thought this fabric was adorable. It's called Mademoiselle from Alexander Henry.  I don't know what I will make with it yet, but something cute for sure.  Any suggestions?

I won!

I can't believe my good fortune!  My name was drawn as the winner in the Birthday Club drawing at Red Boot Quilts.  As my prize I get to choose a Red Boot pattern of my choice and will receive a $25 gift voucher from Pink Chalk Fabrics.  I already know the pattern I want; it is the The Carrot Club Bunny Bags.  These bags are SO cute and will be perfect for Easter.  If you get a chance, check out Red Boot Quilts.  I have bought several of their patterns and appreciate that I can receive them as a .pdf file since Toni Alexander, the talent behind the scene, is from Australia.

Hello!

It's another typical day here in California -- sunny and warm.  Gotta love it.

I am a quilter and new to blogging, so I hope you will be patient with me.  I enjoy all the blogs I visit and I'm thrilled when they offer free patterns or teach me new techniques.  I especially love mystery quilt-alongs.  It's so much fun to see what others are doing.  The amount of talent in this world never ceases to amaze me.

From time to time I have ideas I would like to share, too, so I decided a blog might be the perfect venue to show others what I am doing. If you love to quilt and craft, I hope you will join me in my new endeavor.  I might even throw in a recipe or two.  I love to cook.  Drop me a line if you like my blog and let me know how I'm doing.  Let's quilt something together . . . just because.
