This Hop is all about UFO's (Unfinished Objects). Perfect! I appreciate the nudge to get one done and out of my way. I don't have a ton of unfinished projects, like some of my fellow quilters, but I do have a bothersome amount.
Why do I have UFO's? Why didn't I finish what I started? Usually I stop working
on a quilt project because I don't like how it is progressing, or I have made a
grievous error that needs to be remedied before moving on.
However, that is not the case with the UFO I chose. My choice was

Pieced, a wool wall hanging by
All Through the Night. I received this
as a kit for Christmas a couple of years ago and I had plans to hang it in my
sewing room. I couldn't wait to get started, but other projects got in the way. Commissioned quilts and other sewing jobs that needed to be finished quickly took precedence over anything I was making for myself. That is how this cute wall hanging got tucked away and put on the back burner.
This kit is all wool and came with everything needed except thread and the backing. I bought the accompanying thread because I liked the colors.
There are 5 appliqued and pieced sections to the wall hanging. In each section is a cat. Four of the sections have birds interacting with the cat, and four of the sections have pieced blocks.
Although there are several ways I could have chosen to applique this quilt, I opted for the fastest and easiest method: raw-edge applique. In this method you simply cut out the images and use your sewing machine to sew around the raw edges. I could have used a zigzag stitch, but I like the look of the straight stitch; it looks more primitive to me.
Once the quilt was finished, I used the complimentary embroidery thread to add
details. Last to be added were the buttons.
A black wool border was added per the kit's instructions. I then quilted and bound the quilt and it was done!
It is now ready to be hung
on the wall.
No telling when that will
happen.

I am so happy to have finished this little quilt and grateful for Marian's gentle nudge. For any of you that have not
tried working with wool, give it a try. It is a dream to sew and
absolutely beautiful when finished. It can fray, so should be handled
with care, but stood up like a champ to my mistakes and seam ripping.
