Welcome to the second day of the From the Heart Blog Hop, the brainchild of Carol of Just Let Me Quilt. Thank you, Carol, for hosting this fun and inspirational hop.
From time to time, we all want to give a little gift to someone who has done us a kindness, and it's always more special if that gift is handmade. Carol's idea for this hop was to share small projects we can make and give as gifts. Of course I had to join the fun, but I was so excited to see the great projects made by everyone else!
For my project, I made a Composition Notebook cover.
I like to keep a stash of these inexpensive booklets. They are bound and have about 100 pages of either lined or grid paper. (I personally like the grid paper.) I keep quilt ideas in one, recipes in another, to-do lists in another -- their uses are endless.
These are great little notebooks, but they are not very pretty. My grandkids use these in school for taking class notes, and by the time they reach the last few pages, the books look pretty dogeared. As my project I thought it would be nice to make some pretty covers for my grandkids' school notebooks.
I made my cover like I would a quilt, with a top, backing, and binding. There are all sorts of videos on YouTube on how to make these covers, so I won't bore you with how I made this one.
One of the most important things to remember when you are making one of these is to measure the book you are covering. They are not all the same size!
I added a pencil holder to the front of my cover and side pockets to the inside flaps.
I did some simple and quick quilting in the ditch to the front of my cover, then placed the backing on top of this and pinned it in place. I cut my binding strips at 2 1/2" and sewed around the cover.
Thanks so much for stopping by! I'm going to pour myself another cup of coffee and go see what great projects the others are doing. Won't you join me?

Your notebook covers look great and make such a wonderfully thoughtful gift for a special friend. Thanks for the inspiration :)ReplyDelete
Great cover. Love all of the pockets. I hate it when I open a note book and all of the stray notes go flying out.ReplyDelete
Cute idea for notebook covers - I like the fabric you used!ReplyDelete
Covered in fabric or paper, those make a great gift!ReplyDelete

I remember using those type of notebooks when I was in school. They've endured for such a long time, but they definitely aren't pretty. You've really made them look amazing, beautiful, and much more fun to use...great gift for all ages! Thank you for sharing!ReplyDelete

I love those gridded composition books. I never thought to put a small 6 inch ruler and pockets on the inside cover.ReplyDelete
What a great idea. I actually bought composition books and planned to cover them - well, they are still in their original skins. This may speed me on my way to covered books, thanks for the push.ReplyDelete
Great, as I actually plan to make a book cover. Yours are beautiful.ReplyDelete
